Nothing draws into perspective that fact that you’re alive more than death, momentous yet so final in its forth coming and most definitely inevitable.
The thing is, even when you know one day you’re going to bite the dust it doesn’t move you enough to get you off that couch or out from in front of that screen. We are so set in our routines that we fail to see that we are barely living. Our activities are a simple template to be repeated, washed and rinsed if you may, most of us never leaving our comfort zone. So then I ask you, would you be okay with the life you lived if you died tomorrow? Could you truly say that you had achieved all that you wanted to?
My guess would be no, there still remains that bungee jumping you never went for, the sports bike you never got a chance to ride, the expensive drink you never bought, the crush you never had a chance to fall in love with. An endless world of possibilities masked away by the daily tussle of struggling to make ends meet or worse yet chasing green paper. We are a society of drones, shaped to believe that currency dictates our affairs like code to software (I just couldn’t resist that one) but at the end of it all will you pause to reflect upon the thousands made or the hours put into work? Ask yourself this before you’re all too eager to put in that extra hour at work at the expense of living your life, at the expense of spending time with a loved one.
So as you draw breathe think about the essence of life, more importantly your life and what story you would like it to tell. Whisper the words, “I want to live” let them ring in the recess of your mind as you toil away counting the hours so that you never forget. Don’t just say the words, let your actions depict them, like a badge of honor wear them and hopefully you will come to understand what I mean when I say Life is for the living.
nice piece!
